I always hated this movie, a rather condescendng piece of crap if there ever was, the real story can be found in Daryl Duke's Payday w/Rip Torn, released two years before and ignored by most.

I've heard the argument that Nashville is condescending before, but I've never understood to whom Altman is supposed to be expressing contempt. The Hollywood types portrayed in the film are hardly given any more respect than the Nashville citizens, and I don't think he was trying to do an exposé or serious representation of the country music industry. But then again, it's one of my absolute favorite movies, so I am very biased. Not for nothing was my old radio show called The Replacement Party. I am also down with Payday. Cool movie, but no Nashville.
