A tribute to William "Buddy" Vaden

My Dad always wanted me to be on the radio and was so happy when I started the Fringe Factory Radio Show over 10 years ago. What he wasn't too happy about is that he would always call in and request songs that I didn't want to play cause they didn't quite fit my format. Mostly Doo-Wop and old country songs. So this show is going to be all my Dad's requests over the years.  And he actually has a history with some of the old Nashville country stars such as George Jones & Johnny Cash, so you'll hear a little about that too!

Crayons to Perfume! Girl of the Week: Lynne Randell

It's been quite a lot time since I featured a single Girl of the Week - and this week it's Miss Mod Australia, the 1967 Monkees girl - Lynne Randell! Lynne opened for the Monkees on their 1967 American tour - she was a spunky blonde pop singer, favoring a fun, mod wardrobe and had a great voice and engaging stage style. She could sing a lovely melody but preferred a rousing rocker - you can see both sides of Lynne in the videos below. Also featured today are Australian and New Zealand female voices - Carole King of the Executives, Judy and Sue Donaldson - the Chicks, Allison Durban, Dinah Lee, Olivia Newton-John and so many more GIRLS! Crayons to Perfume! with djgirlgroupgirl, 7pm tonight, on Ichiban. Tune in here! http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/76953

Go Go Go Whig Out!

Whig Out! with Glynis and Richard to the wild and crazy sounds of teenagers howling, yowling and letting loose with hormonal rage in garages and basements all over the world along with those like minded musicians of today who keep creating that very same racket. Today's spotlight is on Toronto's Liverpool Set - check out their live performance below! Great beat and British influenced mid-60's rock'n'roll! Today on the Whig Out we have more Canadian sounds plus noise from Mexico and South America, Switzerland, Italy, Hong Kong. Dig it! 8pm Eastern 5 Pacific right after The Real Nitty Gritty!!
